An eye for the best

An eye for the best

Eyebrows raised, shoulders drooped, whining to say “oh not again”….That’s a typical teenager reacting to your advice and whenever you want to share your life experiences. Is that the reason for not telling them what you want to? I think not. We are responsible in sowing the seeds of goodness. Most of the values I have inherited came from the boring sessions (yes, Boring when I was a teen myself) my dad used to give me and my brother. We used to think, “oh no, not again” each time he called us to talk to.

Connecting the dots and introspecting, I have lately realized that most of what I have as values has grown from the basic values he sowed in us. He was never moral policing us or cross checking if we followed his advice. He just sowed it and the universe nurtured it. Yes the rains in Chennai gave me enough time to introspect and here it is. This is one thing that I remember well…

I was in class five back then; I was getting interested in colouring. I told my dad that I colored better than my friend. Unlike other parents he was not very happy with what I said. He appreciated my work and also taught me to appreciate other people’s work. No matter how shabby a work is, it’s better to be an encourager than a critic. He advised me to talk only good things about anyone or anything. What an impact that small advice made in my life. It made me focus on all the good things around, see the best of the worst situations, that’s a real blessing to love the world you live in.

When we focus on the best of each person, everyone seems limitless and magical. Each one of us have one or more unique capabilities. I really fall in love observing the small things that each one does so well and does it with so much ease.
–       My niece singing Musically with a lot of expressions that too with much ease,
–       Nikil (my Son) baking with joy,
–       my husband being able to relax with the TV (I do everything to make his life miserable tough, just by making him turn off the TV – a typical wife),
–       my dance master being able to do portrait sketching exactly like a photograph,
–       the voice of my personal excellence coach talking to us in the sub conscious level,
–       the way my Tupperware distributor carries herself in business and that too in difficult times,
–       the way my younger son Nitin empathizes with me and people around,
–       the way Tamil Nadu weatherman understands weather.
The list goes on and on and on. It’s truly amazing to observe people and to focus on all the good things going around. It makes you feel limitless and brings abundance of joy to your life.

Nature by itself is limitless and it is just that most of us spend most of our lives in discovering what we are best in, some don’t even have the time to think about Nature. In the recent years I came across a tool that can let us know what we are best in. How nice a feeling it was to see, that I was walking and working in the right path of my life. I was able to know my path only because I had a choice to… and at a point decided to follow my life path. Does the new generation have a choice? Maybe some have and maybe some don’t. What if I can help the ones who would like to know? Oh that’s a life worth living.

I have more and more values surfacing in my mind right now, Give the best of what you have to others (this was by my mom). Whatever you want in life, if each of your cell in the body also wants it, it will happen for sure (quote from Vivekananda that my dad often repeated). Now it’s more than 600 words. So rest for later. Just keep talking good things and good values to the younger generation. It’s not our choice, it’s our responsibility to make the world a better place and a peaceful abode for humanity to love and live.
