Mindfulness

Covid care needs to be done for the mind too.

Covid care needs to be done for the mind too.

When everyone talks about the physical symptoms of covid, I would like to discuss here the emotional or the psychological difficulties I experienced recently with Covid like symptoms.

I know I was getting tired and my back started hurting with a bit of sour throat. I affirmed myself saying I will overcome it. I involved myself at work and with my pet. I was readying myself for multiple coaching projects and shoots.

With the tiredness getting over me, I had my weekend full of back to back sessions. I put my best self forward, on the first day of the weekend. Faking I was normal. On day two the mental confusion started. I was sending out the wrong information and was not able to respond as sharp I used to be. Later that day I was not able to express myself clearly. My mind would think of something and what came out was something different. That’s when I decided to call of all the sessions I had for the day.

At this point I faced body ache, tiredness the mental confusion. My emotions became weak. I was crying for silly things. I was still living in the moment. I wasn’t worried about the future or holding on to the past. I realised my mind had become as week as my body.

The more I rested the more comfortable it was. I was becoming anti-social, not wanting to have a chat with anyone. Still longed for the touch of a hand in my forehead, a presence near me. Sadly in Covid times that’s a dangerous expectation.

I know I was breaking from inside. I know I was yelling and throwing little tantrums. My family understood me at times, still at times they were helpless in helping me.

I only wish we all get to understand that the body and mind are one and when one is affected the other is too. It’s time we all learn how to care for a sick. How to emotionally support the ailing as much as we support them physically.

Here are a few quick things I would love to have when I am sick.

• Occasional caress in my head reminding me, that I am strong and I can fight it.

• Asking how I am feeling emotionally.

• Having a cup of coffee or a snack with me.

• Spending precious time with me.

• Keep the place calm and clean.

• Most importantly not taking the tantrums personal and understanding from where it is coming.

You may have other things to add. Do add in the comments below.
