Books to people, what is your choice?

Books to people, what is your choice?

Travelling with books, has been a way of life since my college days as a literature student, even a little before that from my teens actually. Started with romance and the genre of books evolved with age. Now I read philosophy, spirituality, epics, science-fic, romance, poetry, self-help books, management books, motivational books, in a parallel fashion to suit my mood or interest. A few become irresistible that I spend sleepless nights glued to the crisp pages. Some become very intense to seep in, so I go a little slow so I don’t forfeit the significance. Certain books look cool on the outside but fail to get my attention to it, the content or the delivery does not suit the reader in me. I give up and never get back. I do not judge a book by its cover certainly I do judge it in a few pages. The lighter ones become one day read and a feel-good factor. The more intense the book, the more it opens my mind to a lot of things that I have never imagined in my mental sphere.I give those books a special place in my library. My heart aches when certain books come to a near end, I so much wish it keeps going beyond the hard bounds, still all good things come to an end and I will have to move on to the next read. Deep in my heart I know this book will always be in my library whenever I want to get back to it. And more so deep in my subconscious .Even after years the book instantly connects with me. Even flipping through the pages is good enough. Many a times it makes impact that I evolve so much through a book.

Too much about the books and now I wonder when I got into reading. As I already said it was in my teens and the typical time when I wasn’t as sporty as I was before. A time when I stopped playing in the road with friends, a time when the society refrained girls from going out freely, a time when girls could not talk to boys( the 80’s kids). So books were the only window to the big wide world. The addiction to the bigger world went on till a few months back. A viral eye infection gave me a verdict of not going too strong into reading. I remember asking my Doc on what I can do if not books. He said something that opened my eyes and mind. ’People’ he said, I can spend time with family talking to them. For a girl used to the bigger world through books, this was an initial shocker. Not anymore. I consciously started connecting to people of different lifestyles. Trust me whatever I said about books holds true for people too. I have realised people are very beautiful in their own way and each one is unique and the learning is limitless. Again who I vibe with is uniquely mine and it doesn’t make anyone big or small. So what’s your choice so far books or people. Would you also like to take a choice of reading people to books?
