Have You Ever Judged Someone?

Have You Ever Judged Someone?

The train starts to leave the station. Travelling alone, I just wanted to have my dinner and settle with my book in the upper berth, so that I have enough time to read before the lights go off in the compartment. I open my Tupperware to quickly savour the two paneer rolls. As I eat I watch a couple from farawy land of Northeast India, enjoying sambar and Iddly with one headphone shared between two watching some comedy movie in their smartphone.

That was a quick dinner for me and my fellow couple travellers too. But just after dinner I see the girl pulling out a bag of chips and both still watching the movie, eat the chips with a sound that still lingers in my ears. I was actually wondering, ”seriously potato chips ?”, ”in the night?”, ”in the travel”, ”After fooooood?” That was just a line of thoughts for a fraction of a second.

Did I judge them?

Kind of, yes! OK… Let me accept it, I did.

And the consequence, every time I complete meal , this image pops up and you wouldn’t believe, I go crazy in search of a snack. I was a sweet tooth before but now I want to hear the crackling sound too, this is crazy. I feel stupid. For health conscious me, this is new. But why?

This was not the first time. I have had incidents before too, where I have judged people for their bad choices, behaviour etc.I have got into the same web just like them. But why?

In most of the occasions, I have had my life lessons by living the same part, taking the same choices or exhibiting the same behaviour. May be , Just for me to understand that it is okay . Just for me to understand the other side better. Just for me to understand each one is fighting their own battles and what they do, is the best they can at that point in life.

This realisation has given power to live my life without judging myself as others too. I no more say I could have done better at any point in life, I now understand I also did my best . This liberated me from within.

I wouldn’t say judging is good. But I did grow from there to getting into a zone of non-judgemental living. I am human and I wouldn’t say I completely stopped judging. At least now I am aware of my own feelings of judgement.
