I was floating on Cloud nine literally and figuratively. Flying back home from China- my well-earned incentive trip. Every time I travel I get excited because I get to experience a lot of first time moments in such trips. With the adrenaline rushing and making me float and the flight soaring high above the clouds of Hongkong, I look around.
It’s the usual site of a long travel, most travelers tired and sleeping. My all women group from work, already missing iddly, sambar, chutney and home is in deep slumber too. I am fully charged and have no way for sleep to take over the last few hours of the trip. I turn the entertainment center in front of me and browse through the list of movies and music. ” The theory of everything ” holds my attention and I start watching this story of a soul that’s seen it all. I haven’t known this legend so far. But his story instantly connects me to him- Stephen Hawking.
I never got hold of Physics in my school days, I never even bothered to understand, but here is a story of a Genius in physics. Physics and Literature was the perfect combination that he had with his girlfriend. The woman who stood through his disease and proved the power of love. If she was a dedicated wife, he was a marvelous husband. It takes courage to let go of a loving wife like he did. Just like the famous dialogue in the movie
” No one knows where the next break or leap forward is going to come”
How true is this for me, who just like that stumbled up on this movie and the knowledge of a living legend. It opened new doors for me. Is it the door of inspiration, enlightenment, hope, awe? It was much more than that. It gave me a connect to the unknown. It got me curious about the human potential. It made me feel Small and Big at the same time. Small in front of the large universe that Stephan explored. Big because I was feeling strong. If he can fight so many odds in life and still love the people around him and use his potential to the fullest. I am sure I have it all in me to surrender to universe and unleash my potential.
The story or the life I remember well of dreams, love, learning, heartbreaks, grit and determination. That was more than I can ask for, to end my trip with. Stephen Hawking struck a chord with me from that day. I take inspiration from him like a wanderer looking for direction. Recently I got to read his book ‘ The Universe in a nutshell’, I loved the simplicity of his words and the easy with which I was able to understand Quantum physics.
He has lived his life to the fullest and I am proud to have shared the same time and space with him in universe. Today when I heard about his passing away, I went black for a while. I can’t wish his soul to rest in peace as he peacefully passed away and gave his best to life. I can’t cry because I know his soul will live forever. I went into a black hole to emerge back with this blog.
