I am 40 and for the first time in my life, I am liking the fact that I am getting old. I was for many many years stuck to the age of 16 and then with 21. I now feel the acceptance of my age gives me the wisdom of my years. I also know I am not very old yet. Just the right age to experience both the youthfulness and the maturity. Life starts at 40.
I note the stretch marks that line my body, it looks like the ocean waves. The waves that took over me as a mother. How cute they look like the patterns on a zebra. Why did I not note it early? May be because not having a stretch mark was a glamorous thing that was put into the psyche of women. I remember me asking my gynaecologist shortly after the birth of my second baby, on how to get rid of the marks. She told me straight it was not possible. So I let it go. Never admired or cursed it. Now suddenly I see these pattern endowed naturally to me to be pretty awesome and unique. It is the mark of a warrior as I say to the scratches on the side of my car.
Two silver strings to decorate my tresses, not close to the ears that I can boast. I still have years for my wisdom whites. These are just two shiny strings that shine amidst my black curls. When it was single I wanted to cut it off. Now I flaunt it maybe because it’s got a beautiful pair. Endless debates if I will dye my hair when I turn old, seem meaningless for I somehow like it there, to add a little shine to my crown.
Why do they call it the crows’ feet? Recently I discovered the one I am developing and it’s peculiar name too. These wrinkles etched in the corner of the eyes are caused by loss of elasticity combined with early wrinkles caused by smiling. That means I have laughed and smiled in my life so much to get this fine line. Isn’t it sign of happy life?
These are what is visible outside. There are wonderful things happening on the inside. With each day I feel Limitless. Things that hurt me or haunt me no longer can have power over me. I have mastered the art of letting go. How much of abundance I can feel and cherish when I can let go.
I have forgiven myself and all that I was holding on to. No pressing expectation for the future. For I have understood I create my world. My mind is all that is so powerful.
I enjoy living in the moment, taking one thing at a time. Life is amazing , if that’s what the maturity of age will give me. I am ready to ripe old as I age.
